The Community Water Supply Scheme at Pathakada, Sri Lanka will provide a safe and reliable water supply to the local community
21 January 2021
Margosa and LRM have recently completed the second stage of their action plan to establish a Community Water Supply Scheme at Pathakada. The scheme will provide a water well and storage tank to produce a safe and reliable water supply to the local community.
Consultation began in December 2018, with the first community meeting attended by the Geological Survey & Mines Bureau (GSMB), Water Resources Board, Central Environmental Authority, Divisional Secretariat, Local Council, Village Officer and villagers. A hydrological investigation was completed and outcomes presented at a second meeting, held in December 2019. Following recommendations from government authorities, a detailed proposal was prepared and submitted to the GSMB for approval. Negotiations are currently underway for the purchase of land prior to commencement of construction by the National Water Supply & Drainage Board.
Once commissioned, the scheme will be handed over to the beneficiaries of the project, members of the community Water Supply Society, for operation and maintenance. The company will continue to assess and monitor the project after the commissioning period.
